This is the last trip in Ikaikas campaign. These past few weeks into the new year have been bittersweet! I can not beleive it is coming to an end!
Bob and I are up @2:30 a.m. (only got into bed at 11:45 p.m.)!! Depart home by 3:30 a.m. to arrive at airport, get car parked in long term parking, checked in and onto gate where we are patiently waiting our flight to JFK. Bob tells me I have mastered my packing skills and is surprised to see my clothes fit into one suitcase only (and under 50 lbs)! A seperate rolling bag for Ikaikas stuff, medicines, toiletries and my shoes! WOW! I am surprised myself!
This weeks' weather back east has been awful! Causing grief for anyone flying....worse for those attending the Westminster KC. We are due to land today at 2:32 p.m. and off we go to the Affinia!
After checking in and getting organized, our plans for tonight include dinner at Carmines with the Peach Clan and visiting with friends afterwards. ! Weather in NYC should be COOOOOLLLLLDDDD!!! Average temp during our stay, 34 degrees. No rain predicted during our stay, just possible snow showers on tuesday.
Get back to you all tomorrow!! CHOW FOR NOW!!

OH MY!!! Time is flying by! My post will be brief tonight...we are BEAT UP after the 4-days in Costa Mesa and arriving Long Beach to get our grooming space. The last day in Costa Mesa, it poured rain!! Emi and I were not about to bathe our dogs outside in the miserably-cold freezing, raining weather!
Bob drove to Long Beach and got in the overnight line for our entrance into the convention center to obtain grooming space. Line was not supposed to be forming until 7:00 p.m. When Bob arrived at 5:30, paid $20.00 to stay overnight in our SUV, so we have a good grooming spot! Bob was 8th in line!!! He is an important part of our team, sleeping in the van all night! Emi and I stayed in Costa Mesa with the Sprinter and dogs. We SLEPT IN until 7:15 a.m. YAY!!! Took care of dogs, ate breakfast and drove to Long Beach. Bob was replaced in his space in line with the Sprinter. Emi and I hung out all day.
Emi was able to get all the dogs bathed while waiting in line. I cleaned and organized the Sprinter van. It was cold outside, wind had died down, and the sun was shining.
At the bewitching hour....3:00 p.m. The AKC reps allowed the first 10 vehicles into the convention center to unload. Within a few moments, people were jumping out of vans, throwing out cords, crates, etc. to claim their real estate!!! CRAZY MADNESS!!!! All I can say is.....there has got to be a better way! It is utterly ridiculous that we need to do this to obtain grooming space.
We are now exhausted and grumpy and the show has not yet begun! UUUUURRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!
Later people!!!

Time is flying by!!!! I mailed out my Christmas cards the day after Thanksgiving. When you are going to dog shows all the time, it is very difficult to keep on track with "real life" stuff. I try....but am not always successful.
The past two days, I have been at the Shoreline/Malibu shows. This is the countdown to the Eukanuba Classic. Ikaika has been fortunate to win both BOB's and two group 3's. This show is packed with beautiful top-winning dogs in all groups!
The shows are held indoors and weather is beginning to turn cold (for us in CA). Paid grooming space in buildings allow handlers to leave dogs in a secure, temperature-controled building. I am fortunate (NOT) to be next to the indoor public ex-pens! They are not kept clean at all!!! It is nasty!!!
Oh well, that is life. We will deal with it!
talk tomorrow!

YUMA, AZ Day #2 - Yuma is a VERY WINDY!!! Lots of dry grass being blown all over the place!
Between the wind, sun, jets flying low over the show site...It is enough to give anyone a headache!
Each show day seems to pass quickly. There never seems to be any time to do anything except show your charges, clean up the truck, walk you charges and start all over again. Today I was fortunate enough to have 2 BOB winners in my van, Ikaika... and Radar, the Greater Swiss Mtn Dog.
Without further adoo (plus, I am wiped out and in pain).....Ikaika BOB ( judge - Sharon Saxon) and Gr 1 (elaine Mathis).
Th Best In Show line up.....another STELLAR ONE!!! Vals German Wire Pointing Griffon, Ikaika, Amy Rutherfords Portugese, Gabriels Scottie, Jorges Affin, Non-Sptg - Silver Mini Poodle, and Martins Powlish Lowland Sheepdog....Best = Gabriels Scottie!!
My embarassing moment of the day......Being tripped by Ikaika on my down and back in the BEST IN SHOW RING!!!! I fell, landed BAMB RIGHT ON MY left HIP and elbow!!! OUCH!!!
Here I am a few hours later, after many ibprofen....and I am HURTING! Should be interesting how sore I am tomorrow.
Just another day at the office....humiliating myself.
Good night all. Back tomorrow!

Happy Thanksgiving to all readers!!! I would love to have some interaction on my blogs. If you enjoy, want to share an experience, have an opinion, or difference of opinion, comment, etc. .....please share on my blog! That is what these blogs are for!!!
Ikaika's Thanksgiving, is just like any other normal day at home....out in the a.m. with 2 cookies as a morning snack. Playing with Chloe (vizsla), pretending she is his old girlfriend, Minnie!
I am up, not moving as quickly as I should.... No day off for me :(. I will survive for sure! Coffee sipped, emails checked, FB checked. Moving forward to a bit of on-line Christmas shopping (hey, I needed a small break). Surfing the Net actually, attempting to get ideas for Amber and Audras gifts...
I completed my client billing. Envelopes all stuffed with invoices and ribbons, ready to mail tomorrow!
I am off now to compete Sprinter packing, and bathing dogs. Upon completion of "chores", I will be able to get myself cleaned up and enjoy a scrumptious meal with all the trimmings! Bob has me spoiled!!! Thanks honey....your so good to me! I appreciate all you do!
After a relaxing meal, I will get on the road with Emi and the doggies to Yuma! Gonna live on the "wild" side and leave later than normal to enjoy family and friends and drive to the hotel. This way we can walk doggies at hotel and not worry about "setting up" late in the cold! A bit more work for tomorrow a.m., but worth the extra down time today!
Catch up with you all tomorrow!!!

Day #2 Turkey Circuit - BITTER COLD!!!! So cold outside that our hands could not function well as we were showing. It was cold enough to give you a headache and make you feel achey(sp?) all over!!!
Not a successful day at the office for me anyway.....My charges all lost :(. If you are gonna survive in this sport/game, you have to accept that every day will not always be as successful as you want. You can work dilligently, have your charges in the best physical shape and give a "rock star" performance and still lose. Alas, it is not up to me, the trainer/handler. The one who points the finger, the JUDGE has all the control. It is up to them to do their job, with their unbiased and fair opinon, Normally if you lose early, you can pack up and move to the next show.....since we had front row parking, had to stay until the last breed judging was complete. German Shepherds seemed to go on FOREVER!!! We all stayed in the van, keeping as warm as possible, paitently waiting our opportunity to leave and go on to Stockton, the next show site.
Day #3 - Turkey Circuit - Still cold, not as cold as yesterday! This show site is quite spread out....the group rings are indoors. Since it gets dark and cold early....A BLESSING!!! Much more success today....WB with David Cherry's "Ruby" for 2 points (1 bitch shy of a mjr), and BOB with Ikaika Judge was Julie Holm! Emi was 4th in Juniors...Jasper showed GREAT!
Ikaika is still on his "A" game, showing Fabulous!!! Wins another Hound Group First!!! YAY!!! Julie Holme was the judge. It is an honor to represent the Top Hound in another Beautiful Best In Show lineup.....Sptg Clint Liivingstons Golden, Ikaika the Ridgbk, Working - Tibetan Mastiff of Ed Tomlison, Non-Sptg - Standard Poodle of Kims , Toy - Camilles twin sister with the PUG (CUTE!!!!) Herding - ????? Sorry, Terrier - Gabriels Scottie.......Best in Show to the Tibetan Mastiff!!! YAY!!! SUper Huge Congrats to Ed and the owners of this handsome dog!! Judge was the lovely, one and only, Ms. Jean Fournier....looking fabulous as always!
Talk tomorrow......

I hope you all have missed my blogs! After arriving in Tucson last week....my sprint card went on strike! I could not get internet service....after all we were out in the boonies at the Fairgrounds. My cell phone hardly got reception the entire weekend! I had to be standing at the "perfect" place in order to ,ake calls.
I will recap Tucson briefly. This show is usually filled with some of the best dogs. As the show year comes to a close, many drive out west and stay until the Eukanuba Classic. We offer a large amount of shows in a short time period. The weather is much better here out west, even if we get some rain. Tucson is known for being extremely windy!! It was again this year! Sunny, most days and not to terribly cold until the final show day, Monday. The wind blowing the dry grass made my eyes extremelly red and dry. The dried grass and blew everywhere. After a days work, I felt as if I had 2 inches oh dirt and grime up my nose, and layered over my body, YUCK!
Ikaika is still showing amazing! He received many nice compliments from judges! He won BOB every day and received 2 Group 2's and a group 3. The hound group was deep in competition every night and the handsome Afghan Hound dog of Jay and Jims was the winner every night! I love being in the ring with the best quality of dogs and handlers! Makes us all stay on our "A" game!
Packed and ready for home as soon as the hound group was over! Driving from Tucson to San Diego we gained an hour. I was home, unloadee, showered, dogs exed and fed BEFORE MIDNIGHT!!!
Until next show.....BYE FOR NOW!

Driving, driving, driving!!! When I retire from showing dogs, it is comforting to know I will have enough experience to become a truck driver!!! HAH!!! No, I really never wanted to be a truck driver while growing up! On our way to BEAUTIFUL, SCENIC, Tucson, AZ. The weather forcast is promising.....67 - 71 and Sunny! These shows have indoor and outdoor rings. Typical weather in Tucson this time of year is WINDY, COLD and sometimes rainey! Looks clear for my time here at the shows.
Years ago, this weekend would prove interesting. The crunch is on for ratings and numbers for top dogs. The show is 4 all-breed days . The final day will be Monday. On the final all-breed day (Monday), in many past years was the ONLY all-breed show. Monday would always prove interesting, with many extra top dogs showing up to compete for that one extra show day! There are many other show weekends now, so we shall see if it is different this year. The economy is taking a toll on our sport in a negative way! :( Entries are down everywhere and not as many exhibitors are traveling our of their areas. Attempting to keep showing costs as low as possible.
I will catch up with you all later!!!

Ikaika, Barb and I are relaxing in the hotel room. Barb and I are enjoying a glass of wine and Ikaika is munching on a bone! Job well done, Ikaika!!
We fly home to San Diego tomorrow bright and early. Tuesday morning Barb flies home to the Island!! We will miss her, but it will not be long before we see them both!

We have all enjoyed a few days of relaxation! Bob and I along with all our doggies stayed up in Sacramento with our good friends, Larry and Laurie Fenner. Tom and Barbara Peach are here from Hawaii and they stayed with us for 2 days and then onto tahoe for some "Gaming Fun"!!! Staying with the Fenners is always enjoyable. We feel as if we are at home (almost)! We enjoyed going to see "Couples Retreat" at the movies......HILARIOUS!!!! Lots of great food, visiting and shopping! Bob biked the dogs each day and they were able to run and play in the Fenners large dog paddocks! The weather was beautiful....cool in the morning and evening and sunny and warm inbetween.
All the dogs got baths yesterday. Their bedding and dog towels washed. This morning I will do their nails and will be ready for the show tomorrow!
If I use my time wiseley.....I may be lucky enough to squeeze in a visit to the Vacaville Outlet Mall!!!
Talk tomorrow!! Have a wonderful day!!

Del Valle Day #2.....One of the most difficult shows to work.....especially in the RAIN!!!! It is supposed to rain throughtout the day :( Hopefully, the weather forecast is wrong! It is nice to have the show begin at 9:00 a.m.
Last nights BEST IN SHOW WINNER WAS "LADYBUG!" with Amy Rutherford handling! Congrats to Amy, Ladybug and her team!!! Well deserved win! Group winners were - Toy - Long Hair Chichuaua, Terrier - Lakeland, Non-Sporting - Chow, Working - Portugese Water Dog, Hound 13" Beagle (Jazz and Heather), Sporting - Golden Ret (Treasure - Clint), Herding - Old Eng Sheepdog (Colton).
Yesterday's results in the Ridgbk ring were good for all Ikaikas babies!! Most were winning and getting ribbons in their classes. Joker, (Nancy Fayville, brdr, Larry Weiss, owner) was RWD to the HUGE 5-pt major! I am proud of Ikaika, and the way he has been showing! Paula Nykiel awarded Fiona (Karen Morgan, owner, Val Atkinson, handler) BOB and Ikaika BOS. Congrats to all the winners!!!
Dog shows are always unpredicitable.....that is what keeps us all coming back! We that stay in this sport and serious competitors and must understand it is just one day. Campaigning dogs is an endurance race....not a sprint. Each day we get to begin again!! Love it!
Results, later today!

Talk later....wish Ikaika luck everyone! :) I do not know how many of you out there have been to Boise, ID before...it is very beautiful this time of year. Driving around town these past few days I find it strange that on some of the main streets the speed limit is 35 mph. Police are laying in wait for anyone breaking their law. Since I had a 4 hour break between breed and group judging, I decided to run to Target to look around. Main reason for my trip was to purchase an inexpensive Hang up bag to put Ikaikas Best In show Ribbons in. Scott Price suggested this would be a way to get the large ribbons home without smashing them in my suitcase. Scott suggested I simply tie them to a regular hanger and out inside the hangup bag. I am flying first class (Yes, I know....I am spoiled!) so it can be hung up in the coat closet on the plane. I have such bright friends! Pretty uneventful day. It was just bitter cold!
